SKÅPET

SKÅPET is designed by IntraGalactic arts collective with artistic treatment by Henrik Ljusberg. SKÅPET was the information cabinet of our project and developed into an archive where all events of the project were collected. The layers of material created a visual manifestation of the artist's actions and the unfolding of time. Our project treats on the questions of public art, and what public art can be, through the practice of performance. The temporality that enters the process whilst working with the medium of performance asks for a project hub, or a heart, anchoring the artists activities on the project sites. We created SKÅPET to be this project touchstone. The presence of SKÅPET also represents our methods and approaches. The cabinet does not claim much space, it has a presence but does not jump at people. It is temporary, unexpected, non-commercial and in-between; the everyday and the unusual, visible and invisible.
In the stairs at Busstorget we also have a mural by Henrik Ljusberg developed in a workshop with travellers at Busstorget 29-30/7-2019.

I SKÅPET visas en serie om tre akvareller som behandlar den visuella relationen mellan landskapet och kroppens blodomlopp som rörelser mellan landskapets platser. Hjärtat är knutpunkten men finns bara i samexistens med sitt blodomlopp. På balkongen, ett utrymme på Busstorget tänkt för evenemang, placeras ett vårdträd. Vårdträdet vakar över platsen och de som vistas där, det har sina rötter i jorden och sträcker grenarna upp mot himlen. I Jämtland och Härjedalen var lönnen vanlig som vårdträd vid gårdar. Fruktträd har också använts som vårdträd men det är långt ovanligare. På Busstorget står ett sommaräppelträd av sorten Pirja.

This project aims to create a connection between the past, present, and future, as well as two important local places: The Old Theater in Östersund (Gamla Teatern) and Östersund bus station (Busstorget). The Old Theater was previously employed as a house of order that was associated with the sobriety movement during the 19th century. The current bus station will be torn down and relocated to a new place as a part of the development of the city center.
The artist is going to send a message to Best Western Hotel Gamla Teatern during the exhibition period, to request to borrow their trash can and install it at the bus station. If she can borrow it, she will take full responsibility to guard the trash can the whole day.

Hjärtat är en muskel som med sin rörelse syresätter blodet i människa och däggdjur. En rytm som leder oss igenom livet och som förr eller senare stannar av. Vid upplevd otrygghet eller rädsla så höjs vår puls, vårt hjärta slår snabbare. Hur påverkar detta vårt välmående? Detta långsamma våld på våra kroppar? Eller hur påverkas kärleken och tryggheten? Hjärtat är inget som syns på utsidan men det finns inom oss, i kroppens hemliga rum och arkiv. Våra organ lever i mörker, omgivna av hud och vävnad, muskler och fett.
I vårt projekt (Lokala konstprojekt) har vi liknat Busstorget med ett hjärta som knyter samman blodomloppet i Jämtlands -och Härjedalens läns kollektivtrafik. I SKÅPET finns en teckning som jag överfört till ett broderi. Broderiet kan fästas på ett klädesplagg (you wear your heart on your sleeve). Under natten den 26-27 september 2020 kommer en ljusinstallation att fylla Busstorget med ett pulserande ljus. När Busstorget stänger fortsätter byggnaden att leva utan människor på platsen.
